It’s been an honor and privilege to serve as Sheriff of Madison County for the past eight years. Since taking office in 2019 the agency has come a long way. We’ve grown from less than 150 deputies to over 200 in that time. I’ve used that growth to increase the number of deputies in our Patrol Division, but just as importantly it’s also allowed us to increase the number of School Resource Officer from eight to twenty-five and growing. We’ve implemented several other specialized units to include; a Street Crimes Unit to focus on taking dangerous criminals, drugs and weapons off the street; a Traffic Safety Unit to help keep our heavily congested roadways safer, increase our school zones safety, and ensure that the many dignitaries and special events across our cities and county are handled safely; created a drone program to improve officer safety and help with everything from missing children and elderly adults, to
locating criminals; created a stand-alone Internal Affairs Unit, known as the Office of Professional Standards to ensure accountability, consistency and integrity; and grown our Crisis Intervention Team to better serve our citizens who are experiencing crisis but need mental health help rather than jail; and worked with the Commission to design and build a new training facility that not only serves our employees, but allows us to host training for law enforcement from all over north Alabama. In addition to increasing the number of deputies I’ve also worked hard to make sure our non-sworn divisions, such as Dispatch and Records have increased their manpower as well to help keep up with the growth. We’ve also implemented a Citizen’s Sheriff’s Academy to give our citizens an inside look at how the
Sheriff’s Office works, why we do what we do, and to build on our partnership with the community we serve.
I put an emphasis on providing our deputies with the best equipment and training possible to ensure they can serve and protect our great citizens with professionalism and confidence. We’ve purchased over 100 vehicles since 2019, each of them having the best equipment available. In just the past two years, we have purchased new tasers and other less-lethal tools, new body cams, new in-car cameras, and new handguns and rifles to ensure our deputies have the most modern and dependable equipment possible to do their jobs safely. Our deputies have new handheld radios and new in-car computers as well. We were able to use grant funding for a lot of this equipment, bringing your tax dollars back to Madison County where they belong.
Shortly after taking office in 2019, I engaged with our employees to change the image and look of the Sheriff’s Office. That started with a new uniform design and color, as well as changing the look of our patrol cars. My goal was for our uniformed employees and our marked cars to reflect positively on our agency and our County as a whole and create something our citizens could be proud of.
Most importantly, I was able to work with the Commission to ensure our deputies were being paid what they deserve. As a result, they are now the best paid law enforcement officers in the region. I’ve also worked hard to ensure the pay for our non-sworn support personnel grows and stays competitive with surrounding agencies. This is critical in not only making sure we can recruit the best people, but it ensures that we can retain good employees who truly care about their jobs and love their community.
We’ve come a long way in the past eight years, but I’m not done yet. As your Sheriff I want to continue to grow the agency to meet the needs of our citizens, keep building our community relationships, and continue to make the Sheriff’s Office an agency that everyone can trust and be proud of. I can promise you I’ll always serve with courage, integrity, professionalism, and pride, knowing I have the privilege and honor to serve the best county in the state of Alabama. I’ll always strife to be a good steward of the
funds our citizens provide to ensure that every dollar we spend goes toward providing the best
employees and best law enforcement service possible. I humbly ask for your vote for Sheriff, and your support for the men and women of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office in 2026.
