Meet Kevin Turner

Kevin Howard Turner has served as Sheriff of Madison County Alabama since January of 2019.
Madison County has a population of over 400,000 residents and spans over 800 square miles. As Sheriff he commands over 400 employees and is responsible for the care and custody of an average of 1200 inmates daily. Prior to being elected Sheriff, Kevin had served in various law enforcement roles with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and Madison County District Attorney’s Office. He is second generation law enforcement and began his career at the age of 20.


Some of the highlights of Sheriff Turners career include:
1992 – 1998: Madison County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputy, Criminal Investigator and

  • Gang Investigator (first gang investigator in North Alabama)

1998 – 2010: Madison County District Attorney’s Office Investigator

  • Assigned to Criminal Investigations Unit and Violent Crime Units

  • Assigned as a Narcotics Investigator with Madison-Morgan County Narcotics

  • Assisted in founding Alabama Gang Investigators Association

2010 – 2019: Madison County District Attorney’s Office Chief Investigator

  • Oversaw the Criminal Investigations Unit, Violent Crime Unit, Worthless Check Unit, Restitution and Recovery Unit, and Computer Forensics Unit

2019 – Present: Elected Sheriff of Madison County where he serves as the Chief Law Enforcement Officer for the county; currently serving his second term.

While serving as Sheriff, some of Kevin’s goals for the agency have been:

  • Build a more professional and accountable agency

  • Maintain CALEA accreditation

  • Increase manpower to better respond to community needs

  • Improve fleet and equipment

  • Improve/implement technology resources

  • Improve Jail management

  • Build partnerships with other agencies to better investigate and reduce crime

  • Improve officer safety equipment

  • Improve employee pay and working conditions

  • Implement Citizen Training Academies to let public know about the Sheriff’s Office

Since 2019, Kevin has worked hard to build a Sheriff’s Office that is a resource and value for the community and addresses the ever-changing needs of a diverse and growing county. He believes that partnerships are one of the best tools at his disposal and has worked hard to enhance the relationship between the Sheriff’s Office and community by fostering trust and transparency.


As mentioned, Kevin has partnered with multiple federal agencies ranging from; FBI Safe

Streets Task Force, FBI Tennessee Valley Regional Computer Forensics Lab, assigned
investigators to the ATF for illegal firearm prosecutions, Assigned Narcotics Investigators to the FBI and DEA for enhanced drug investigations, and the US Marshal Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force for violent criminal apprehension. Kevin has also worked closely with the US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Alabama to ensure that criminals who prey on and victimize citizens of Madison County can be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

 

Kevin is a husband and father who was born and raised in Madison County and attends Rivertree Church. As Sheriff, Kevin also serves on or is a part of numerous boards, committees and organizations to include; National Children’s Advocacy Center board, North Alabama Drug Task Force board, Alabama Department of Forensic Science board, , State of Alabama Security Regulatory Committee, Alabama Sheriff’s Association board, and Rotary Club member.
